Zobo drink, is a non-alcoholic beverage made from different varieties of dried petals. It is known by different names depending on where you live. Popularly called Roselle, Sorrel, Hibiscus, Sobolo, and Da from the Caribbean to Africa.

The location and climate where the plant grows determines its specie, most herbal teas are made by infusing herbs in hot or boiling water. It has a tart flavor, so it can be enjoyed either hot or cold.

Touted by many research studies to help fight inflammation and bacteria, promote weight loss, and help lower blood pressure thus reducing the risk of heart disease.

The hibiscus leaf is packed with antioxidants, which fights free radicals that cause cell damage.

Despite all its benefits, people on the drug hydrochlorothiazide should avoid taking it because of unpleasant interaction with the drug.

The Ultimate Zobo Drink Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Zobo Leaves
  • 4 cups Water
  • ¼ cup Grated Ginger increase ginger quantity in winter
  • 1 tsp Cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 cup Sugar Syrup You can use sweetener of choice to taste. It is optional if you don’t care much for sugar
  • Pineapple Chunks
  • Apple Chunks
  • Quartered Oranges.

Instructions

  • Rinse Sorel leaves in water to remove dirt, particles or dust.
  • In a saucepan on medium heat, combine the freshly washed leaves and add 4 cups of water.
  • Add the cloves and grated ginger and bring to a boil.
  • let to boil for 10mins.
  • Turn off the heat, pour pineapple and apple chunks into the saucepan and let it steep (this juice tastes best when left to steep overnight in a refrigerator).
  • Strain the juice through a cheese cloth
  • Add sugar syrup to juice and stir.

Notes

  • If taste is still strong, dilute with water.
  • It can be mixed with Iced tea.
  • Add 7up or sprite to make a bubbly and foamy punch.
 
Its ready to drink!
